Cooks Challenge

Not sure if this is throwing down the gauntlet as a challenge, or if it is a social experiment!

We've begun a recipe thread on Lymm Lounge, but I wondered if alongside that people would be interested in a narrowed-down thread, where we take a particular meal idea or theme, and everyone who's interested actually has a go. We could compare notes, report disasters and share successes - piccies would be nice. I'm thinking we could try seasonal themes such as Halloween or Bonfire night, or specific meals, breakfast, dessert etc. We could even do cocktails! Yah

You could get into researching ideas online, or use tried and tested recipe ideas... but be warned we would want all of the nitty-gritty, so not for family secret recipes unless you are happy to share. While it would need to be reasonably within the chosen theme - lateral thinking would be encouraged. There aren't any prizes for winning, except hopefully a scrummy meal! I'm not even sure if it would follow the format of judgements and placings and winners and losers...

As a start I have noticed that many of our posters have sweet teeth, so thought APPLE CAKE would make a good challenge to start us off... there's no time limit - but if the topic disappears off without anyone posting I'll know it wasn't a good idea

Saturday Lunchtime food recommendations

Got a couple of friends who are thinking of relocating to the area, so are planning to meet up for lunch one saturday. Any recommendations for simple, but slightly sophisticated eats, with good prompt service?

Here's some _not_ to suggest:
Church Green - £14 for pie and chips??
Spread - unless it's improved, always seemed a bit dingy.
Fleece - if the £4.99 all day breakfast still exists, then that misses on several counts.

Where is the bistro, the one above the bistro, bacis and the one above bacis up to nowadays?

Cheers, Matt

First time out in lymm last saturday (took us a year to get a sitter haha ) anyway having walked to every food establishment in lymm and reading the menu's we had decided on the bistro but then changed are minds as we hadn't booked and didn't want to wait to long so we trotted off to the lymm lounge.

the reception that greeted us was very friendly and we were seated at a table straight away even though they were quite busy, prawn crackers were placed on the table whilst we looked at the menu and ordered drinks, the prawn crackers were fab!! we eventually ordered and i must say it was the best chinese i have had in a long time and will now become our regular takeaway because of this.

You could not fault the service we even asked a few questions and they answered them all like we weren't stupid for asking them ie how do you hold these chopsticks lol.

anyway fab meal fab place fab staff would defo go there again yum yum .

also very very reasonable in price 3 drinks each plus starter and main cost us under £50 bargain

Tapas

Just been to the bar bistro - current offer of Tuesday to Thursday 3 dishes + a glass of (decent) house wine for £12.50 - with extremely tasty food... I think this offer runs into March.
I'm not connected to the restaurant but it is probably my favourite out of the choice in the village (have not tried the new Mediteranean yet)

New Curry Place seems expensive!

Hi,

Was about to order a curry from the new place in Lymm when the wife spotted that it is 60% more expensive for the set menu for 2 than the same place in Grapenhall. We were so annoyed by it we got our curry from Bhajis

If you don't believe it check the menus out:-

Kiddies menu

Okay all you lovely people of lymm,
A village pub would not be much of a community contributor if it didn't cater for the families, so we have finally got our butts into gear and put on a kiddies menu, it will be in place by the end of this week and it was actually chosen by the children of Lymm, well those from Cherry Tree primary school (our kids school).
So bring your kids over and tell us what you think, all comments, as always are very welcome and very much taken on board.
And one for the adults, the bar menu has been made more extensive and is served all day 7 days a week. Coming in at very affordable prices. (well i think so) let me know what you think.
Thanks for your support over the past 12 months and we look forward to welcoming you into our humble abode.

Transport Cafe

Being a truck driver, I usually defend these places to the hilt but I had a wierd one today.
I'd been to Derby with TLS in my car (to pick up an amp I'd won on ebay) and decided to drive back across the Peak District via Leek to Manchester. We stopped at Windy Ridge Cafe (there....I've named them!) just north of Asbourne cos it was open, and we were hungry.
I ordered a full breakfast, and TLS a bacon & cheese oatcake, both with a mug of tea. Nothing difficult there, but after 25 minutes we'd had nothing. We were starting to mutter to ourselves when a woman who was sitting nearby asked the counter staff where her bacon butty & tea were because she'd been waiting 35 minutes....35!! She duly got her cup of tea, but no butty.
Sam then asked one of the 2 women who were working where our drinks were, and was told "2 minutes"
I gritted my teeth and told myself that they were very busy and would get everything sorted asap but 10 minutes later I snapped and went to the counter. This exchange followed....
Me: Excuse me, I've been waiting 35 minutes for a simple fried breakfast with a hot drink, I can't wait any longer, can I have my money back please?
Girl (with sulky face): No, it's cooking.
Me: I can't wait, I'd like my money back please.
Girl: We are doing lots of orders, it takes time to cook.
Me: I ordered my food 35 minutes ago, have you only just started to cook it now?
Woman (also with sulky face): We've got all these orders (points to about 4 pieces of paper, all taken from customers who are sitting around looking hungry & confused) to do.
Me: I don't care, this is ridiculous, please give me my money back.
Girl: I don't have to.
Me: Oh yes you do.
Girl: I'm only a trainee
Me: In that case I think you're in the wrong job.
Girl: I don't care what you think.
Me: (laughing) That's why you're in the wrong job.
Woman: Give him his money.
Girl: I don't have to.
Me: (still laughing) This is unbelievable.
Girl: (giving me my refund) There, don't come back.
Me: Ha ha ha ha!
I'm sure that they swore at us as we were leaving too, but hey ho!
As we left, the woman still waiting for her butty looked at us and laughed sympathetically, rolling her eyes. I dread to think what happened after we went, there were at least 6-7 guys who judging by their clothes were farmers who had been waiting for maybe 20-25 minutes by this point.
I laughed all the way to my car, and am still smilling now. When we entered, there were only 4 people in the cafe, 3 of whom had already got their drinks & food. I wonder what they do when they are 'really' busy
